The Definitive Next Gen Beginners Guide Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:32 PM PST Hey guys, welcome to this exciting read on everything new about this 2K . I am writing this up as I've reached PRO 3 and I'm ready for a break . I wanted to share my experience of the game so far and things that I really excited to get out to those just starting up your game . Below I have detailed info that if you are just starting up or need some help with on : MyCareer Build Info. Effective Gameplay Discussion ( Shots , Badges , Builds , Attribute Discussion ) Fastest ways to earn rep and badges . ———- MyCareer Creation ——————- The Next Gen version of 2k has really allowed for us to make some extremely versatile builds . It is quite possible to make a build that is capable of doing EVERYTHING at a high clip here is the information you should know .
Every Badge has a requirement level you must meet to unlock it . To maximize your build include +4 to your finished build stat to see if you can unlock it . For example your build might end with 90 block but if you reach 99 would hit 94 unlocking Intimidator Hall of Fame . Here is a link to the requirements : https://www.nba2klab.com/ng/badge-unlocks
Pretty straightforward here are some basic rules to follow to make sure you have a build capable of competing at the highest level . 80 Ball Handling - 76 to unlock at 99 Pro Dribble Moves 90 Speed With Ball - 86 Speed With Ball to unlock at 99 Tier 3 Speed Boost 65-75 Vertical Best Dunk Packages - 61-71 to unlock at 99 6'10 & Over = Big Man Dunk Packages 6'9.5 and Under = Guard Dunk Here are your dunk requirements https://www.nba2k.io/nba-2k21/next-gen-contact-dunk-requirements/
Go to your settings and go to unit of measurement -> change to metric . You will now be given a half inch choice on height . That 6'5 PG is now 6'6 in game with very similar stats and so on and so on.
No more waiting until you earn a point to switch them around , you can change any badges that you have earned at anytime . ————- Gameplay Discussion ——————
6'7 210 7'4 pretty much makes you a Durant in game .
Finishing : Overall they fixed the over reliance giant slayer for PGs last year . Posterizer : This is the badge that you feel the most as it is increased at bronze until it's HOF. At bronze you are like hey , I can really dunk on people nice ! On Hall Of Fame you start trying to take off from the free throw line dunking on entire teams stacked in the paint . Fearless Finisher : This is the badge you feel most when it is first equipped at bronze . I highly recommend you equip this first in career mode . It gives you those 50/50 layup attempts that Giant Slayer took care of last year . If you don't have this equipped even with 95 layups you will feel it trust me . Acrobat HOF : Needed for Playground finishes Shooting : Guards get circus shots remember this . Shooting badges are important again this year . I only have 2 equipped at HOF level but I still shoot at a 60 percent clip from beyond the arc and have tried 80 percent of the badges Stop and Pop - This alone with the curry slide is a problem . If my 6'7 PF with 84 3 PT can hit this with just decent timing alone I'm scared at what the future holds . Set Shooter - Yeah we know you , the guy that is afraid to s shoot and the defense knows it too. This is the badge for you . You know when you break down you guy or spot up and are open because the defense gave up and is waiting for a rebound . Yeah just wait a little bit longer and you have yourself a green . Those along with now hot zone hunter on bronze have stoped me from asking what's wrong with me why can't I shoot to being my teams de facto 3pt threat . Trust me I didn't expect it . Both the most effective playmaking and defensive badges are the same . Quick Step Dimer Tight Handles HOF: Needed for top tier park handles . Intimidator Rim Clamps Rebound Chase Down Both have added badges but are more for end build than anything currently going on for the average user .
Park - 3's - Mostly 3 Foward or 2 Forward / 1 Center teams . Fast and good dribbling guards and athletic rebound centers are game changers right now . Games are closer most times as anybody can shoot if left wide open at this point 2's - No change at all. A big and a guard is the best combo . The dimer and floor general combo for 6'9 Centers and Guards is just straight nasty .
Important to note Inside Def = Body to Body Animation Success Block = Ability to effect shot success Meaning you will get dunked all over and post hooked /fade on all day with 95 interior defense and 25 block but will stop drives or dunk attempts when body to body animations happen If you want my opinion blocking is more important. —— Fastest Ways To Rep Up and Badges —— Excluding MyCareer and Pro-Am here are your fastest ways to rep up .
Good luck and post any questions and I will get back to you !! Post edit : AI are added to your team in Rec they are usually 6'4ish no matter what position . They are 60 and suck . Takeover badges can change the game if you can spare enough of them . If you are a slasher with a ok jump shot but Showtime HOF you can quickly become the teams go to slasher on run outs and a back door target for lobs . Wingspan is crucial . Allows you to shoot contested jump shots and contest jumpshots better . Dunking I feel like is affected by this hugely [link] [comments]

The City is pretty much a disaster, but so is The Rec. Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:58 PM PST After trying my hardest to struggle through the 2 FPS park gameplay for a while, I decided to try playing rec instead since it seems most people have migrated here as a result of the issues in park. The Rec seems mainly untouched, which is totally okay in my opinion. It's a pretty standard concept, just simple 5v5 matchmaking games for people who don't have a full squad to play Pro-Am. I maybe would have liked a new court and maybe some new jerseys, but I can live without that. What I do want to know is, who in their right mind decided that 60 overall AI players needed to be involved this year? These dudes are physically incapable of making a wide open layup, much less a free throw. Got 4 players in your lobby? Lets flush your chances of possibly enjoying your experience by giving you a 6'3 center who has the capabilites of that fat kid who got cut from your middle school basketball team. Not to mention the past 3 times I've tried queueing up in this mode I've been hit with some terrible lag. Not the same as the framerate drops that happen in The City, but just giant lag spikes that make the game unplayable. I haven't seen anyone complain about this lag and I haven't exerienced it up until today so I won't put that against 2K, but it's worth mentioning. Most people that are trying to rep up quickly have switched to Rec now because The City doesn't give as much rep as the Rec does. Also the City is a gamble every game you go into because the framerate is god awful in half the games you play. Even after the patch. This game performs terribly most of the time, and they even managed to screw up the one mode they had going for them although they left it mostly untouched. So many fixes are needed, and at this point it seems like the developers don't even know what to do to fix the issues. This is really troubling considering a large part of the user base doesn't have the game yet. I remain optimistic, but this is one of the worst launches in a 2K game I've ever experienced having played every game since 2K10. The game is beautiful, the load times are amazingly quick, the concepts they implemented are creative and fun, but the execution is just awful. [link] [comments]
MyPlayer ruined the NBA 2K content community Posted: 16 Nov 2020 07:39 PM PST This is going to sound dumb for a lot of you guys but ever since 2K introduced MyPlayer I think the online content took a turn for the worse. I used to watch to be excited to look up videos of what people were doing with the game but now EVERY where you look it's "how to get this build", "best badges", "watch me get 20 assists by spamming the pick and roll". I know not everyone who plays 2K plays it for MyPlayer, I know I don't. The funny thing is that, this is my first time on this Sub because I wanted to see some next gen content, and you don't have to guess what I see by scrolling down the sub. 2K content (in my opinion) is no longer creative. This may go for most of the gaming community but it seems like content these days is purely just "watch me play the game" instead of "I did something cool, watch this". I remember watching the Kobe doin work videos countless times, thinking how cool it is to recreate Kobe's mid range game and moves in a video game and make it look so realistic. Things like this really, don't exists anymore. People aren't making cool montages, doin play studies, trying to recreate great games. A quick YouTube search fit NBA 2K and all you'll see is videos in builds and whatnot. 95% MyPlayer videos. This is an actual question - what did you guys do before MyPlayer, and why do you really only buy 2K for MyPlayer now ? [link] [comments]
2k Removed Public All Star Teamup Again.. Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:10 PM PST On 2k19, they removed it, but after a month they added it back in after enough players talked about it to get their attention. With next gen, they removed it again, as the video I made shows it's not in the menus anywhere. Many people may not know of the game mode, but on 2k20, it was doing better than it was in past 2k's, and as a result became more popular than previous years. No, player control is not the same thing so don't comment about it lol. 2k needs to add it back on 21 on the ps5 asap. [link] [comments]
This game has so much potential to be great Posted: 16 Nov 2020 07:12 AM PST With next gen, loading times are nothing now and gameplay is fresh with a new myplayer builder. However, there are similar issues every year that never get addressed. I see a simple fix, GET AN ACTUAL COMMUNITY MANAGER. Someone who is the link between 2K and the community, a middle man. We seem to never have a person that listens. Everyone seems to know about the choppiness and lag in the park along the lack of games. Why has 2K not said anything about this, is ronnie getting paid to sit down and make a tik tok now and then? How hard is it to either play your own game or get people who play the game to give feedback? We just rant and rant and rant but to nobody who can have an impact. Why remove the ones court? Why make 4 affiliations just to put them in ONE CITY? Wouldnt it make sense to have separate servers like in 2K17 so that there's always games? So many problems in this game but it seems like 2K doesnt know about them, but somehow whenever theres a vc glitch it seems to get patched faster than the flash. SOMEONE LISTEN TO US!!! Posted: 16 Nov 2020 04:47 PM PST Tl;dr at the end, just a nice heads up. As context, I am no big shot at 2K, but I'd like to share some wisdom I've found useful to developing your self as a player and as a person when it comes to playing video games in general. I know writing a persuasive essay is almost unnecessary on this sub, but I feel if a few benefit from this read, it's worth it. I've come to a big reality check in the past month, grinding different builds for rep and expanding my boundaries for how I play, that a LOT of players, myself included, are upset with the current state of NBA2K- Both on Next Gen and Current Gen platforms. Whether it be casual or PROAM, everyone tends to get upset by the toxic sliders and 7ft Contact Paint Beast. Teammates will be upset with themselves and one another no matter what happens: Glitchy animations, limited MyPlayer diversity, and Oversaturated moves sets that are almost now predictable. With every video game, there's trends, what is called the Meta- and it's the new hot thing on the block (or the long over used thing on the block). Why's it so hot? Cause it works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But what if it IS broke to the point of game breaking, and every park game turns into a trio of Glass Cleaning Finishers and Playmaking Shot Creators? There's an issue right? Not entirely! But the realization is- this isn't the NBA folks... This is a video game. It's fantasy- a sandbox to do whatever you'd like in the given boundaries. If you play with the sense that you must have a good build to be good, you're missing the entire point of this game. Here's a list of 2K Commandments that I recommend new and novice players to keep in mind. 1. The point of this game is to have fun. If you're not having fun due to losing or frustration, step away. Playing close minded is only going to worsen your ego and make you more upset with yourself, the game, and it's developers. At the same time, if you're forcing yourself to play a curry slider build when all you're used to is playing paint beasts and bull-dozing slashers, are you having fun because you're winning, or are you forcing yourself? Which leads nicely into commandment two: 2. Don't force the "OP Meta" builds upon yourself. There are four different skill trees which will change your entire play style based on what skills you focus your points into. This all comes back to having fun, what sparks joy when duking it out on your free time? Do like you breaking necks with no look passes? How about breaking ankles as you nearly break your right analog? Getting five rebounds finished by a standing contact on three opponents? Greening threes because your man decided to sit in paint and taunt? Or my personal favorite, bull dosing and almost paralyzing opponents with monster poster dunks? Those all sound broken and toxic, and each one of those HOF skills is FROM A DIFFERENT SKILL TREE. Some are more utilized than others, since when is the last time you admired a crazy behind the back no look pass in the rec or park? Others are "Meta", like the curry sliders and glass cleaning contacts. The point is, they all have there incredible uses, and it's your decision which weapons are best suited for your play style, which ultimately means: 3. PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS AND TO YOUR FAVORITE PLAY STYLE. Although not the first rule listed, the previous two are what lead up to this being the most important one. A theme is following, because this ties into the first two commandments- having fun in general and having fun with your specific build. Remember when you played High School ball, hell College ball currently if you're fortunate and dedicated enough- you played to your strengths. Personally, I used to kill guards with brick wall screens, but I couldn't shoot a ball to save my life, let alone free throws. I had a good sense of post moves, but if I dribbled I was going to get stripped. My knowledge that I developed personally, and from the coaches that I wish I listened to more looking back, gave me a sense of what I could do on the court. I can transfer that same knowledge to 2K, although it's no where even CLOSE to the real deal, as well to the fact that we make our my players about 6" taller than our actual heights. Albeit a video game, 2K is the closest thing we have to basketball in a virtual sense, no matter your athletic capabilities. If you've never played a game of officiated basketball in your lifetime, or even a game of pick up, you're not missing out. It's a LOT of hard work, and it revolves around game knowledge and teamwork. Even if you're a super fan of the LA Lakers but refuse to hit the blacktop in fear of busting your ass, 2K is the modern solution to being a fantasy super athlete. You don't have to be 6'6" in real life to trash kids on a court, but you do need the two following ideas regardless of your basketball experience: 4. Game sense and knowledge are EVERYRHING. Learn dribble moves and post moves, read a few tutorials or watch a couple videos, practice and abuse what you're best at. More importantly, learn what other builds are good at, and what are the best ways to counter them. Pay attention to take overs, as they can give you a sense of what you're up against in 2s, 3s, and 5s. Learn triangle and 3/2 defenses (although not used much, this is EXTREMELY powerful if executed against sharpshooting teams). Have a diverse move set, personally I like to use post spins, hop-steps, and pump fakes to help aid my scoring. More importantly- play better than your opponent, regardless of your or their build. Don't disregard this if you're a slow big against a dribble-wizard sharp shooter, or an undersized post player against a steam rolling slasher. The point of game knowledge is to know your opponent and outsmart them, not just brute-forcing on offense. DEFENSE IS YOUR BEST OFFENSE. If they're playing checkers, then you sure as hell better be playing chess. 5. "There's no 'I' in 'TEAM', but there is an 'ME' in that mother f%$#er. Unless your playing one-on-one, or 2s with an AI (although the AI is sometimes crazier than your teammates) this is a team oriented game, and should be treated as such. No one likes seeing the ball handler run down the lane, face first into a big, just to get stripped by the opposing guard for a turnover and fast break. I have fallen victim to attempting a game winning layup in Rec SEVERAL TIMES and getting flattened by a big in doing so, when the best option was to bail out after the lay up or just pass out to the wing for an open shot attempt (better than throwing away your chances entirely). No shot is guaranteed, you're not gonna hit every shot- but you should utilize your teammates to take the best shot possible regardless of the outcome. Now what about that ME? If you or your teammate are having that game, RIDE THE HOT HAND, and reset once things are going south. You have that sharp shooting badge on? Take. That. Shot. Your teammate? Get them on the open look. There are gonna be park games where a teammate is going 21/0/0, but you're contributing rebounds and assists, hell- even screen assists. Take pride in being the playmaker, even when your build is centered around being an offensive threat. This isn't an excuse to play hero ball, as being a teammate needs to be tied in with utilizing your build to its strengths (commandment 3) and playing smart (commandment 4). Tl;dr We've come a long way in the journey of the development of a realistic basketball sim. The developers who pour a LOT of their time into making this game look good are doing it for your experience. Although complaints of realism in game physics are hit and miss (Curry Sliders and Glitchy Spin Dunks) the current and future developers are on a long and hard road to making that dream work. It may take a generation or two of tech. before the community sees a more ideal simulation, or even the dream we've all envisioned. It's coming eventually, it takes time, be patient and enjoy how far we've come now. Games aren't life and death. You're gonna lose, but there's always a chance to turn out a positive win ratio if the stars align and you play your cards right. Play to your strengths and make a build that best suits your strengths, while also rounding out your weaknesses. Play for the pass into the smart shot, don't feel forced to play the meta, and remember to have fun. There's no point in playing 2K if you're not having fun. My Quick 2K Commandments:
I didn't mention this in the body, as I see it's not as important as the other points, but it's good to keep in mind: Trash talking is fun- don't take strangers on the internet too seriously and have a good time with it. Now stop whining and start grinding- Good times are waiting! [link] [comments]

there are so many quality control issues with rec/city... Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:18 AM PST Feel free to add on with anything I missed, these are all my personal experiences: -After making a team quit from a rec, my team and I are forced to sit in a loading screen where I have to quit out and not get any progress. -Thousands of people searching rec-games (if I had to guess) and people still get punished with having 60 overall useless AI players instead of getting a fill in, or an AI who's actually useful. -0 matchmaking capabilities for private matches (rental court), city games OR rec. you have to walk/skate everywhere, no fast travel -The phone doesn't work properly, for whatever reason the friends list loads all of your friends on or offline, and if you have a long list, it'll cut off at some point. For me, it cuts off at the letter L -Along with the phone, invites do not send properly with the names you do see. -Severe choppiness (well documented) seems to be when you have games in the background -Harsh global sunlight effects on the court, sometimes you literally cannot see stuff. -Only 100 person cap in the city, because the servers can't handle more, leads to dead parks, which means for most people very SLOW rep grinding (.5x rep if you are playing at a different affiliation) when it's already slow enough as it is. Ironically, the servers can't even handle a relatively deserted city. (well documented) -Not getting proper VC rewards (seen from others complaining) Note how NONE of this even addresses anything with gameplay. Even with the gameplay flaws, this game could be a lot of fun if most of these non gameplay things were addressed. Every year I let myself get excited. I thought we would do better things with Next-Gen. I'll give them a month before I really call it quits but man its a shame. [link] [comments]
Am I the only one missing free throws in the 70-79% range? Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:16 PM PST Title pretty much says it all. Without fail, when the shot feedback gives my myPlayer something between 70-79%, it's a brick. 60s go in sometimes and so do 80s. Is anyone else experiencing this or am I tripping? [link] [comments]
IMO as of right now defense as a whole is very underwhelming. (Next-gen) Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:39 PM PST Possibly I could be exaggerating, the game has only been out for a for a few days now. But from the multiple park/Rec games I have played I can't help but feel like the skill gap for offense has significantly shortened. It's seems within a rec setting the meta to score is to have your center set a 'vacuum' screen animation then get a contact dunk on the center. Other than a occasional contested shot from the corner, that's about all the offense I see from these 'comp' teams. 5 out and hope a contact dunk animation triggers. Now I know you may be thinking that I probably have all of my stats minimized on defense, but to the contrary all my defense stats are maxed excluding rebounding. For the past few 2ks my build has always been a Lockdown SF, as I always had a love for defense more than offense. And a majority of the time I gave the ball-handler a hard time. But in this 2k even with my best effort, players who would be considered casuals in 2k20 seem to just score with little effort. I'm not even going to bring up interior defense because that alone is a nightmare. I guess some of the changes I would make off the top of my head is to buff pick dodger, have strength be a factor when it comes to if you get a blow by animation or trigger a contact dunk, and of course fix interior defense. Because my lord I haven't seen so many contested layups go in since 2k18. Anyway tell me you feel and if you agree or not. [link] [comments]
2K not giving full amount of VC after games Posted: 16 Nov 2020 03:14 PM PST I don't know if anyone else has experienced this. But a buddy of mine has said he feels like he's been getting ripped off in terms of Vc earned after games. So the past few games I've kept track and looked at the VC I was earning. And it does seem like I'm ending up with 100-200 less VC than I should have after each game. For example I had 4077 total VC. Played a career game and earned 911 VC for the game. Checked my total VC after the game and had 4788 (200 VC less than I should have). Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a VC tax I am unaware of? Lol [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Nov 2020 02:09 AM PST I have an 85pt 3 ball and playing my career on pro. On ps4 I could easily make 90% of my shots but now I can barely sink enough to get hot zones. No MyPoints/Badge Points/VC Glitch Possible Fix Posted: 16 Nov 2020 06:33 PM PST On Xbox So I delete my saved data, not reserved space. Opened 2k again. Ended up going back into my glitched game, still got 0 for everything. Went to practice and did a drill. Played another game and got the same mypoints and badge points as the practice drill. After this my games gave mypoints, badge points, and vc again. Try this out, hopefully it works. 🙏 [link] [comments] |
