Rebounding in NBA 2K : A Complete Guide (Long Post)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 09:32 AM PST

    My background as a rebounder

I've had a rebounding type build in every single 2K going all the way back to 2K17. Throughout the years, I have learned every little tip and trick that helps me grab the most rebounds possible. Altough nowadays, I mostly play for fun, I used to play a more competitive style of park (ante-up), and was always the big man because I often (if not always) outboard the opposing center. I hope this guide can help you get more rebounds in your games (and hopefully help you win more of them).

    Builds

In 2K, the attributes that help you actually get a rebound are : Defensive rebound, Offensive rebound, Vertical and Strength. We could make an argument for speed but I'm not going to go down that road. The most important ones being obviously both rebounds attributes. These are pretty self-explanatory. The trickier ones are Vertical and Strength. Basically, if you want to be a great rebounder, the taller your MyPlayer is, the most strength you want over vertical. The smaller your player is, the most vertical you're going to want over strength. That's because as a taller rebounder, your main goal is to keep others out of the rebounding zone. In opposite, as a smaller rebounder, your main goal is to actually get in that zone. A good mix and balance of height, vertical and strength is (in my opinion) the way to go for a rebounding build. This year (2K21 next gen) I made a 6'10 max strength, max wingspan power forward, that also gets a 86 vertical attribute. Let me tell you games where I grab 11 boards to the opposing center's 2 are more than common. Also, don't think I need to explain this, but the longer your wingspan is, the higher chance you have of grabbing that sketchy rebound.

    Badges

Nowadays, there are 3 badges that help you be a better rebounder. The main one being Rebound Chaser. You'll want this one at the highest level possible because it is simply animation based. Your player will jump higher and further with every level of this badge. I'm also pretty sure it allows you to ''snag'' tougher boards, but have no way of proving it (Snagging or to Snag is a word that has been in the community's popular lingo for a while now, it basically means grabbing a board that was clearly destined to an opposing player to get. I guess you could call it stealing the rebound). The other two are Box and Worm. To make it simple, these two cancel each other out. Box allows you to box out better and Worm gets you to ''swim'' around opposing box outs. Now, how do I choose which one to prioritize ? If you're a smaller and lighter player, prioritize Box. It'll allow you to box out bigger matchups better because most if the time, your strength attribute alone isn't gonna do the job. If you're a bigger and heavier player, prioritize Worm. Your higher strength is often going to be enough to keep opposing centers out of harm's way, so you'll want a higher chance to at least get through opposing box outs when the situation calls for it. Elite rebounders obviously run all 3 of these on Hall of Fame.

    Controls

This part is mostly going to be for newer players, but I'll still include it. To jump for a rebound, you want to press Y/Triangle. To box out an opponent press LT/L2 while moving your left stick in the opponent's direction. Keep in mind that while boxing or being boxed, your left stick is still very important. Use it to better direct your box and to keep the opposing center from swimming around it. While being boxed, use it to try and get through the boxout. You basically want to identify the weak side of the box and get your player to move to that side. Most of the time, it'll trigger an animation that can either be successful or not. If it is, your chances of getting that board go up tremendously.

    Takeovers

While takeovers are an essential part of this game, you definitely can rebound succesfully without it. For next gen, unless you're playing 5v5 Pro-Am or Rec, I'd stay away from Glass Clearing Dimes. Also, See The Future is completely useless if you don't have appropriate positioning, so I wouldn't use this one either. Boxout Wall has definitely bailed me out countless times, and is the only rebounding takeover worth considering. Though, if you're an experienced glass cleaner, I'd look into another takeover category that can help you in better ways.

    Tips and tricks

Although grabbing rebounds is mostly an experience thing, I'm going to give you guys tips that I discovered throughout my big man ''career''. First and foremost (and I can't emphasize this enough); don't look at the ball in the air, look at the opponent trying to get it. Who cares where the ball goes if no one but you can get it anyway? Another very essential tip is to not jump before knowing the ball's trajectory. More often than not, it'll throw your player in a completely different direction and will get you to miss an easy rebound. If the shot turns into a long rebound, you'll at least have a chance of getting it by running feet on the ground. If the opposing center is correctly boxed, even jumping first will not help him. Be patient. Analyze the situation. Finally, a tip for more experienced rebounders, but one that can help tremendously. Turn your shot feedback to ''All shots''. You want to know if your teammate shoots a Very Late or an Early. Why ? Because in 2K, Early=too strong and Late=too weak. A very early shot means the ball will 99% of the time bounce on the far side of the glass (from the shooter's perspective). A very late shot will always turn into a weak airball. You want to know these things. The more information you can get about the shot that is up, the higher chance you'll have of grabbing that board for an extra possession.

Hope this post will help you grab more boards on the court. Get that glass to shine:)

I’m fine with 2K not currently penalizing people for quitting. But if you can’t take an L like a man (or woman)...then it says a lot about you.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:04 PM PST

There are people that genuinely get lagged out due to no fault of their own so I don't mind 2K not penalizing people for being kicked or quitting but at some point you have to come to the realization that over 90% of y'all just lack integrity.

It's all fun when you're winning but as soon as you lose it's "Dash Dash Dash Dash!!!" Just played some team that thought they were comp because they were spamming x and flying through the passing lanes like captain save-a-hoe, running zone, and flopping when up double digits. Then my team settled down in the second half and forced OT.....and then we cooked them in OT and they fouled and dashed with 3 seconds left.

Don't talk all that shit and then dash to preserve your record. The same way you emoted and flopped when you were up...keep that energy and take the L that you earned on the chin. And after the game...the team that dashed didn't even feel ashamed lol. Records and win percentages mean nothing this 2K because the majority of them are lies.

If you have no integrity in even a video game...then idk what to tell you.

    P.S. Fix Pro AM ASAP.

Edit: I'm not referring to the people who into the rec solo or with less than a full team and end up with teammates that are selfish or just terrible at the game. I mean the people who play an entire game trying to win and then at the last second see that they're gonna lose so they dash (and especially the ones that are talking shit when they're winning).

    Historic Kobe’s Defense

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 01:44 PM PST

    B+...? A fucking B+?

Steve Nash has an A. There are lots of historic players who were not only not known as defenders, but were known as bad defenders, with an A defensive rating.

I know there a lots of younger kids on here, but you need to understand something; from about 2000 to 2008, Kobe was talked about as arguably the best on ball perimeter defender in the NBA. I don't give a fuck about that bullshit advanced DRating garbage. The actual players in the NBA considered him to be arguably the best defender, too. Not to mention the All Defense Honors.

A B+? What in the fuck?

2k21 Next Gen - Play Now Online With Friends Issues (PS5)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:22 PM PST

This game mode is driving me crazy. My friend and I are just trying to have a quick-play match together online and the whole process has become so cumbersome.

It's easy enough to invite a friend to the locker room to set up a match but then the host has to choose the teams for both players while the guest can barely see anything on the screen. A big game details box blocks 1/3 if the screen. In 2k20 you could both join and then you select sides (home team or away team) and then just choose who you want to play with.

Then the host for some reason always ends up being the home team. If you want to be the away team you have 2 options. 1) you both go into your own quick play menu and change the game settings so that both have the host as either the away or home team and then rejoin. 2) whoever wants to be the home team has to host and then choose the teams for both.

Also the shot feedback (early/late and % covered) will only show up for the host - so in order for the guest to even see that information the host has to go in a change it so that shot feedback and shot meter etc are ALWAYS visible on every shot.

    This game is $70USD WTF

In all the previous versions this worked just fine. It's 2020 I don't understand how playing online with a friend could be so shitty.

Will the current-gen get some of the new features in the next-gen?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:04 PM PST

I was wondering if anyone could possibly know if the current gen nba 2k21 will get some of the new features in the next gen in the future incoming updates. Especially like the hairstyles, other customization features, etc. 2k21 current gen is like the same damn game again just with the updated roster and not everyone can have access to the new consoles like the ps5. U feel me? I was just wondering tho, if anyone could answer thanks in advance! Lel

Question about Mamba Edition NBA 2k21

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 12:03 AM PST

Ive been debating whether to get the Mamba edition of 2k21 current gen for the ps4 because I read that the physical copy of it comes with a digital code of the standard edition for ps5. My brother wants the ps4 edition and I can use the ps5 edition, but does anyone know if I can use the code on my account on the ps5 while my brother uses the disc on the ps4? Or would we have to use both games under the same account? Thanks.

Opinion: Affiliations are useless and stupid.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 05:32 AM PST

The only deciding factor in choosing your affiliation is which one will you actually get games in. Leave your park to find a game? Half rep. Your affiliation won an event? You get nothing. Switch to an affiliation where you can get games? Back to Pro 1.

People cried for the last for years for this? I don't get it.

    Guards are the new DemiGods?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:57 AM PST

Here's another year I'm forced to created a guard that I dont want so I can actually enjoy the game. Ever since 2016 they've made anyone taller than 6'7 trash.

First off 2k not slick, were not even really a 99 like real players. Were really like 90 overall at max. They put dumb stats we dont need like durability, hands and others at 99 from the jump to give us a higher rating.

Second I tried to create a 6'9 point forward like magic and hes absolutely horrible. Like how is he even a 99. He cant do shit, he cant shoot, dribble or anything. If you create anyone taller than 6'8 your stuck being a slow ass low post player or try to be a strech who literally cant make a lay up. Once again how the hell are you a 99 ? If I look at lebron well let's not even count him. Look at someone worst you still cant have no where as good as a defence or offence when your overall supposedly higher.

I think they should separate park and mycareer so we can make realistic players builds in mycareer and not be limited to create trash players unless their a guard.

Have players gotten much better at 2k over the years? Or is it just me?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 10:10 PM PST

I just picked up 2k21 for Christmas and I figured I would start working on myteam. This is the first time I've played since 2k17. I continue to play domination and 40-piece the cpu consistently. But then I go to myteam unlimited and get absolutely demolished every time. I have a pretty similar team to each one. Opponents are locking me down on defense and killing me on the fast break. Is off ball defense the normal now? I feel like every team I play changes defensive settings, and has these insane defensive schemes. I'm just looking to play online casually and not get pumped my every player I face.
