Animations are the bane of 2K gameplay RN Posted: 09 Oct 2020 09:36 AM PDT I commented this is in another post, but I feel like it's a good discussion to have with the subreddit at large. I've seen and heard a number of complaints about gameplay in regards to both defense and offense and in my opinion the problem is in 2K's animations. Players interactions are determined and limited by the animation that 2k chooses to use a given interaction. I'm sure we've all experienced that instance where our player took the worst dunk/layup animation possible for the situation and got blocked but it's a much more frustrating issue on defense: For example: As a SG I've blown past the big man for a layup attempt but I suddenly feel my player slow down before the shot. Why? The defender has rim protector/chase down artist which then triggers an animation that slows down my player so they can get the block off the backboard. Another example: Getting beat to the baseline. Everyone knows that slashers cheese baseline drives because they know that if they can get going fast enough and get close enough they will be given a dunk animation that limits what (if anything) the defense can do. Once they're in the animation the defender cannot 'engage' with them on the drive. Another example: Dribbling. Why is speed boosting a thing? Because dribble animations separate you from the 'intense' defense of the defender. The best animations not only separate form the defender but carry you outside and sometimes past the range of the defenders ability to engage in 'intense' defense. At that point the blow by is guaranteed. The same is true of animations on the baseline where the defender cannot engage the ball handler UNTIL the animation has concluded. This is the opposite of physical basketball because in basketball the defender's decision making and reaction is what dictates the effectiveness of the dribble move. Yet ANOTHER example: Screens. The 'gravity' of screens is the animation that the screener is awarded by what I assume is the brickwall badge. This animation is necessary because it's how 2k determines when to sap the defenders energy and how 'effective' the screen will. If the defender has the requisite defensive badge to dock picks, then they are given an animation that allows them to dodge the screen. The defender decision-making has no play in the outcome because it's dictated the moment the screener presses 'O' (on PS4). Unless of the course the defender choose to run WAY around the range of the screener which obvious isn't how defense is played in basketball. Animations and badges determine everything in 2k this year ( and in previous years). It's not about 2k emphasizing defense or caring about defense. The problem is that you as the defender (and even sometimes on offense) don't get full control over your player in crucial moments/interactions. The numbers crunch, the animation is decided and the rest is history. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2020 12:38 AM PDT Why are the lobbies so full, it takes at least 20 minutes to wait for a game. Does anybody have any ways to get into emptier lobbies? Or is it just busy right now because it just came out. At this point it's not even worth the double rep. [link] [comments]

Why does Nikola Jokic look like he's made out of drinking straws? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 05:28 PM PDT I know that his weight yoyos almost as much as Jonah Hill and trying to keep an up to date avatar would be ridiculous, but why is he built like a pool noodle in 2k21? I understand minor players not getting lifelike avatars. If you only ever play in garbage time, I don't expect them to put the effort in to make your avatar look too much like you, but Jokic is a damn all star and they got him here looking like slenderman. Wide open, Corner Spec Gold, Flex Release Silver, Gold Range Extender, Gold Catch and Shoot Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:35 PM PDT 93 OVR 2-Way Sharpshooter. Catch and shoot situation from about 14 ft, slightly early release. Air ball. I'm done with The Rec for 2k21, which has always been my favorite thing to do in MyCareer. I also regret spending any money on this game and have completely lost faith in the complete bs 2k has put out this year. They should be ashamed of themselves. [link] [comments]
How to Fix Park/Pro-am Dribble/Pick Spamming Posted: 09 Oct 2020 03:41 PM PDT What is 2K doing with these patches…? They keep making adjustments and changes to parts of the game that are NOT the problem. The clear issue with the park, pro am, and 2s games right now is spamming dribble moves behind a bigman holding a pick. Let me be clear that I appreciate the value of great shooters, the need for open shots to go in consistently, and the utility of well timed dribble moves and even picks. I would just like to see open shots be earned with a bit more effort than current tactics. In nearly every game there's a playmaking shot creator, with curry dribbles, bouncing back and forth behind a bigman waiting for the defender to suction to the wrong side of the pick. It renders player builds focused on other methods of scoring ineffective due to the near impossibility to keep the game close when 100% field goal percentage of two point attempts still loses to a 67% three point shooters. Here are some suggestions that I do not think will damage the game but may help reduce the frequency of this style of gameplay: A) Reduce the effectiveness of the 'handles for days badge' so repeated dribble moves reduce stamina more, this will make shooting threes more difficult off a preposterous number of dribble moves. B) Reduce the suction effect of picks when a defender is not even moving in the direction of the pick. Often a defensive player will continue to slither ALL the way around pick even if the user had no intention of moving that direction from the start… C) Increase the effectiveness of the 'pick dodger badge' to award player builds that focus on defense. Even pure defensive builds still get comically destroyed by a pick (Trust me I've tried). D) Increase the likelihood of losing control of the ball when repeated dribble moves are contacted by a defending player. This will require that dribblers be slightly more tactful in their dribble moves rather than carelessly spamming them back and forth with no fear of ever losing the ball. Comment if you agree or have other thoughts. [link] [comments]
