So back before NBA2k20 came out and they started showing off the new badges, I started trolling and came up with a badge idea called "Pogo Stick" and everyone (rightfully so) trashed me for it. The hilarious part is that I realized my troll came true:

Anyone else think the rep system after 95 overall needs fixed. The fact that anyone who grinds to 95 and higher can get knocked back down, makes no sense and ruins the game. But more than that the rep grade is completely calculated on win/loss not game performance. If you have a double double in the park give up say 4 points but lose. You get the lowest grade. It's not fun currently.

For starters, several skills were basically combined this year. Defense and rebounding are the obvious one, but also shot creating and sharpshooting are basically the same this year. There is no more moving shot attribute, or contested shot attribute. And anyone who makes a shooter is likely going to max mid and 3 point to get the most shooting badges. So last year sharpshooters mostly shot open, stand still 3s, while shot creators favored moving, contested mid ranges. This year there isn't much distinction. It's somewhat similar (but not exactly) with post scoring and slashing for bigs. Bigs can't even get slashing takeover this year, and post scoring is spread out. Last year there was a pretty big difference between a pure slasher at the 5 and a pure post at the 5. This year they're both essentially interior forces with about the same skillset. Last year I had 5 different builds that I got to atleast 90. A glass cleaner (for 99 rebounding), pure rim (for 99 defense), two way athletic (for gold finishing badges), sharp rim (to play pf in rec), and shot creating athletic (just for park fun). This year my glasslock already has 99 rebounding, 99 defense, and gold finishing badges, that takes care of 3 builds at once. I plan on making a sharp rim, so that's two builds, but it's not even possible to remake my shot athletic this year. 2k20 does not allow you to make a 6'11 with 90 driving dunk and a 66 3pt. So I've gone from 5 builds last year to 2 glasslocks this year. There's hardly any sg or pfs anymore because pgs and centers get more badges with the same attributes. Even just looking at the numbers, there are 10 pie charts this year. Last year every position had atleast 5 options for their primary and 7 options for their secondary skill. That's basically 35 pies for each position. We also went from 31 attribute categories to 19. Yes, you have more freedom in choosing attributes and badges, but there are absolutely certain badges that are better than others, and certain ways to distribute attributes to maximize badge points, so most people end up with similar builds if they chose the same pie chart. So 2k20 gave more "freedom", but it has actually resulted in less variety than 2k19.
