Ok devs, please listen to your community. Nobody wants a forced nickname.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 01:40 PM PDT

Just make it like last Gen where you just answered questions at the podium and had sit downs with coach, gm, agents.

Nobody wants this comeback story that forces me to play for some made up college and be called che by everyone. It's not realistic ok?

Just bring back rookie game, scout grade and team interviews. If you don't like the team's drafting you then you can just get an invite to workout for team you want.

It's Stupid and it's not appealing to everyone. Honestly I can't imagine a room full of people thinking this is a good idea.

The ultimate guide on shooting in Nba 2k20 and how to improve for 2k21

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 07:21 AM PDT

I often see people complain about how these elites don't miss. They green all these contested 3s but they can't hit wide open catch and shoot 3s. With 2k21 on the horizon I thought I'd make a guide on how to become a knockdown shooter in 2k. For my credentials, I'm an Elite 1 shooting 62% from 3 in the park, 73% in the rec, and 68% in pro am. I am by no means the best player in the game, so if you want to post how your splits are better go ahead, I'm just here to help all the players who want to get better at shooting.

    1. Find a jump shot you like and stick with it

The most important piece of advice I can give to you is to find a jump shot and stick with it. So how do you find the right jump shot for you? In the first few weeks of the game releasing the community will have found the majority of the good jump shots , so check reddit, youtube and twitter to find them. Casual players do not understand how much of a disadvantage they are at by picking a bad jump shot. When I see a bad shooter the first mistake they often make is picking a shot they like offline that just isn't good in online games. The reasoning is sound. Klay Thompson might be the best catch and shooter in the league, but his jump shot? Complete garbage. You typically want to avoid jump shot bases named after players, although there are a good amount of exceptions (wade, allen, exum). Pick one of the meta jump shots and find which one you like by experimenting in your mycourt.

    1. Master your jump shot

Seems easy enough right? Just play some rec and park and you'll find your timing right? Practice makes perfect, so it's time to go into your own personal hypebolic time chamber, the mycourt. The mycourt has one special feature that will turn you into a sniper: the ball machine. Ball dominant guards might want to practice in just shoot around, but it doesn't hurt to know your catch and shoot timing as well.

The ball machine will become your best friend. Walk into your mycourt and press A and it should bring up a list of modes, then select ball machine. My routine is to follow the basic 3pt contest system, take 5 shots from each corner, wing and the top of the key. I usually go until I can green from every spot for 3 straight trials, so a total of 15 shots. Sometimes I do it in one try, some times it takes a few tries. Just relax and learn your timing, there is no stress or no mean messages coming your way. I usually play a podcast or some music and just fire away shots. For those looking to perfect their timing, I'd suggest going for an hour to the point where the timing becomes muscle memory. The reason all these elites can green at will is because they know their shot, there is no guesswork.

    1. Take off your bar

You can now consistently green shots with your jump shot, so now it's time to completely disrupt your entire routine. You got attached to the bar didn't you? You'll notice competitive players rarely use a bar, but why? Per mike wang, the gameplay director for Nba 2k:

"It increases the window and boosts good shot timing but also nerfs bad timing. If you struggle with shot timing I wouldn't turn it off. But if you know your timing well you'll see higher %s."

To translate for those who don't speak 2k, it makes it easier to green shots and penalizes shooters who can't time their jump shots. In my opinion it is actually easier to shoot with no bar because I memorized the animation of my player/muscle memory of my shot, rather than trying to time a bar. No bar shooting will seem tough at first but I promise you once you start to green their is no going back to the bar. This might not be the case for 2k21 but I hope they do because it's one of the few skill gaps in the game in my opinion.

    1. Do not hold X (or square ) before shooting

When playing with randoms, I can often tell that they are holding down their X or square button before shooting. This is a big no no. You will be heavily penalized for pressing the shoot button before the ball touches your hands. Wait until the ball touches your hands then take your shot. Number 4 goes hand in hand with number 5.

    1. Start taking good shots and don't get baited

Shot IQ is one of the biggest gaps within the 2k player base. A vast majority of players do not know when they are open, and don't know when they are guarded. This could be a whole post on its own but i'll try to break it down for you. I'm making this post more for off ball players, rather than pgs. First know your matchup. If it's a lock, you have to be a little bit more careful on what shots you take. If it's not, then you have a lot more leeway on taking shots.

If you are playing out of the corner, watch where your defender is positioned. If he's at the sweet spot (Right outside of the paint between you and the rim) chances are you're getting baited. You can still green shots on these close outs, but be careful for roaming defenders who are anticipating the kick out to you.

If you're playing the wing, watch how your man drops on the drives to the rim. If he goes below the free throw line, be ready to shoot because it's much harder to turn around and run back. If they are denying ball don't sweat it, your doing your job by spacing the floor. Speaking of spacing the floor!

    1. Space the floor (know your role on offense)

"All he does is sit corner, he's trash. Imagine not taking a shot all game, what a bum." This mindset is so damn common on this subreddit and it honestly might be the worst thing about the 2k community on reddit. Let me explain something to you that you might not want to hear: some guys want to win and don't care about stats. This corner player knows his role and is playing it to perfection. He doesn't care if he takes 10 shots or 0 shots, he's here to win games, an attitude I wished more players had. A lot of these players come from mycareer where they take 45 shots in a game and win the finals and think they are gods greatest gift to humanity. They come to the park and rec carrying that mindset and can not fathom not taking every shot on offense. 2k is point guard driven, so if you're an off ball player just know you're role. I am not here to demean role players, quite the opposite. You are the backbone of every team. Anyone can find a guard to take a bunch of shots, it's much harder to find guys willing to do the dirty work and be contributors when called upon. Be humble and be the best teammate possible and I promise you will have all your teammates adding you and trying to run.

    1. Have a wired connection and make sure your tv is on the gaming mode

This makes a huge difference, as it limits the amount of latency and lag spikes when playing online. If you have to play on wifi, make sure to not be downloading or updating any games while you play 2k online. As for your tv, most modern tvs has the ability for you to switch your picture mode, for things like movies, live sports or gaming. Switching to the gaming mode will reduce input lag and make your jump shot and just the game in general more responsive.

    1. Buy shooting boosts

This is the dirty secret of the 2k community. Shooting boosts are an extremely effective way to boost your shooting online. While I agree they are bad for the game, you're at a disadvantage if you're not buying boosts. Make sure not to spend all your VC on new shoes and outfits and concentrate on always making sure you have shooting boosts.

If anyone has anything to add or any critiques make sure to leave a comment. If anyone needs any further help, just shoot me a DM or respond below and I can try my best to help you out.

    Most toxic park day ever

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 11:23 PM PDT

Today was probably the most toxic day I've ever had.

First me and another all star 2 beat two elites 21-3. I was running a glass lock and he was a 2-way slash play and we beat at PF interior force and o threat. They invited me and my teammate to their party and spent 2 mins saying how we sucked and our builds took no skill even though I had 4 blocks and 3 steals. Then proceeded to cuss calling us every name. When I said you gotta play better defense. I'm a 7'1 center with 40 perimeter defense.

Went on a 7 game win streak until we got dethroned.

Next played 3s with two 95 pgs. Basically just spammed dribble moves and I cleaned up all their bricks. One the first game 21-17 and I shot 9/9 on all put backs. Didn't pass the ball to me once. Rest of the team shot 1/14.

Next game it was 19-19 and I got 3 blocks 3 straight possessions to scored 6 straight to tie the game. Kept freezing me out all game. They were shooting 3/17. Had 17 rebounds. I don't know how but my salty teammate invited me to a game and my xbox accepted and I was immediately taken out of the game. They then proceeded to lose the game a send me hate messages even though they deliberately tried to get me kicked and did. Don't even know why they were mad I carried them both games. I also enabled team takeover both games.

I'm not even a good player. I just know my role and sometimes get caught on the perimeter so I run HOF clamps and HOF chase down. I'm happy to get barely any touches but can't stand when I'm going against a small and my teammates don't pass to me and become dribble god to throw up air balls. Then flip out when I don't get every rebound.

Love playing in park but completely over it.

Quick question, what did I do there? Wanted to do a crossover between the legs and boom got so much space and got ahead of the d it surprised me.

I can't stand Giannis after this season. Boxes you out at half-court. Blocks everything within 30'. Outruns anyone in the history of the NBA. Even when they lose he scores 50. He can do a cartwheel, punt the ball 100' off the backboard and glide from half-court with a self oop. They made this dude a literal Superman.

2k21 REC Matchmaker needs to change

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:11 PM PDT

Matchmaking in REC needs to be based on rep level as well as your my player overall. I will hold my hands up and admit I am not a good player, but that shouldn't stop me from enjoying the online aspects of this game.

I am tired of coming up against elite, superstar and legend rank players who have way more skill and knowledge than me. I've have decent knowledge of the game mechanics but just don't have enough time to put the knowlendge into practice.

I'm an average player, and the matchmaker should be able to match me with players of a similar rep level and similar my player level. There are too many try hards in the lower bracket of rec.

Most underrated season in nba history

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:39 PM PDT

Do you think they’ll address small forwards in 2K21?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 07:08 PM PDT

Its lame that a guard same build as a small forward has better stats in everything.. i loved my 6'9 slashing shot creator in 2k19.

I'm on game 19 of my first mycareer season, I'm playing on HoF and I'm yet to see a teammate make a single putback or contested layup.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 07:34 PM PDT

Keep in mind these are supposed to be NBA players. This is not realistic at all. When I say I haven't seen them make a single contested layup I'm not exaggerating. 6'10 centers missing layups and putbacks all game long. Teammates also miss wide open shots at a very unrealistic rate.

In the NBA a decent shooter has about a 50% chance of making a wide open shot -- on 2K HoF mode, it's legit about a 10% chance for CPU teammates.

This game is a massive joke I'll never understand all the fanboys it has. I guess it's a simple case of buyer's remorse. People don't wanna feel like they're wasting their money so they'll protect their product at all costs.

Probably also has something to do with the majority of 2K fans not actually watching basketball games outside of highlights.

As a new player what is the best way to get some online experience?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 11:14 PM PDT

So I decided it's time to get into 2k after years of being a die hard NHL (CHEL & HUT) player. I have messed around with a few builds and been trying to find my style, but holy shit it's impossibly to get any park games going. I have been forced to grind out MyCareer games but that only goes so far.

The point was made clear the other day when the Treasure Map activity was up, I had to wait almost 30 min to get a park game (no one would squad or stand next) and when I did get one my teammates were a joke and we got ran over by the other team nearly every game.

So why is it so hard? My rating is 75 and I been using a 6'5" SG. Is it the bronze tag or do I just need to find some homies and squad? Or I guess what's the best advice for someone new to the community?

Would be Nice If Latency had a Live Reader

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:12 PM PDT

Would be nice if NBA 2K added a latency overlay in the bottom or top corners. Seeing as they won't fix their servers. It'll help those of us who's connection fluctuates so when I'm timing my jumpshot I know if I need to hold it that extra two seconds.

It's terrible hurling up jump-shots that drop in 3 seconds offline but I have to legit hold the stick about 2x as long sometimes.
