2K Stories - Gilberto De Luca

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 06:44 PM PST

So I've decided with all of the MyLeague I play, I want to tell stories of some of the greatest talents that have come into, and out of my files.

I'll be doing this probably every 6-10 years of a player's career, so you can expect to have two or three of these for each new talent that comes into the league.

I also want to put out there, none of this is fabricated, I let the game decide what it wants to do, I do all coaching for my teams and stuff in that company, but nothing else is changed manually, all autonomous.

So, with that being said, let's go through the first six seasons of Gilberto De Luca's career.

    --

    GILBERTO DE LUCA

    Birth Place: Italy

    Height: 6'10"

    Weight: 224 LBS

College - Gilberto was an amazing college talent, putting up over 25 points and 15 rebounds per game, along with 3 steals and 4 blocks. He was a clear **#1 pick**, and anyone who said otherwise was out of their mind.

Combine - Gilberto wouldn't do so well in the combine, other than the shooting drills in which he knocked everybody out of the park. His vertical was alright, at a **39"**, but then again, it was a small take away. Gilberto wasn't the most athletic guy in the draft, and scouts knew that.

Leading to the draft day - The Oklahoma City Thunder had just come off of a bad season, D'Angelo Russell's reign as an All-NBA caliber point guard was coming to an end, and their big three had won two championships in 2023 and 2025.. (FMVP - D'Angelo Russell) but nothing since then, seven years, in fact. They saw hope De Luca, and he was a guaranteed talent. But, he was on a euro-stash, and it wasn't like this draft class was weak, could OKC wait another two years to get De Luca on their roster?

Draft Day - Well, the answer is yes, yes they could. With the first pick in the 2032 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Gilberto De Luca. He'd play overseas for the remainder of his euro-stash contract, and Oklahoma would pick him up soon after that.

    (2033-2034 Season)

Rookie Year - Fast forward two years, Gilberto is done playing overseas and is finally in his rookie contract, he's 22 years old at this point, turning 23 midway through the season. He comes out blazing, setting records for rookie double-doubles, and scorching every team. This was what OKC waited two years for, two hard years at that, not making the playoffs a single time. But now? De Luca was teamed up with Johnnie Fletcher, the prodigy OKC had drafted just five years before him, he passed like Chris Paul, but scored like Gilbert Arenas, he'd average a good 24-3-6 that year. He'd also played with Mateo Delgado, who would have himself a 20 point season, he was in his second year with OKC, and Fletcher and himself just could never get the job done. Gilberto would go on to average a rookie-high, 25-11-3, notching a steal and a block per game as-well. He was one of the only rookies ever to record a 50-40-90! He'd become an All-Star, Rookie Of The Year, a First Team All-NBA Forward, and the Most Valuable Player to touch the court that year. He'd also carry the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first championship in 8 years (five games against Golden State), giving D'Angelo Russell his third ring!

Scorching The League - The next year, the European monster came with even more force than before, notching 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Another 50-40-90 season for De Luca and his bonuses were adding up. The Thunder would go on to win another championship in five games against the Atlanta Hawks, back to back if you will. He'd receive his first Finals MVP Award that year, and what was to come next would be the real challenge for De Luca.

Back To Earth - Franchises are built upon keeping your assets and chemistry, but for the Thunder, it'd tear them apart. Thomas Fisher, a budding new talent, drafted #1 by the Thunder only a year after De Luca, would come out of his rookie contract, he'd be a 90 overall and was expecting over 40M per year. Oklahoma City couldn't afford that, but someone could. Charlotte. A team who had just won the championship three years ago could somehow afford to pay Thomas Fisher 40M dollars per year, good luck per se? As the season went on a rivalry emerged, maybe Thomas was mad because not Johnnie, Mateo, or even De Luca would take a pay-cut for him to stay. The Hornets and the Thunder were in all-out war through the season. The series would be tied at 1-1 for the season, a blow-out for each team. In the first game, De Luca would drop 54 points, and 26 rebounds to seal the victory against Charlotte. In the second game, De Luca would have a sprained right ankle and not play, Mateo and Johnny had to go to war themselves this time, and it seemed this gave them a glimpse of the future. Thomas Fisher would drop 41 points, 4 rebounds, and 11 assists to blow the Thunder out of the water. It sent shock-waves around the league... Thomas Fisher was the real deal, and the risk Charlotte took paying him what he wanted, well... turned out to not be costly at all...

2035-36 Finals - So they meet again, in the NBA Finals, after breezing through each opponent in the newly seeded playoffs (1-16, no longer 1-8, seedless so the best 16 teams from all of the NBA competed in the playoffs, not the best 8 teams from each conference) they'd battle it out. Thomas Fisher, with the help of his supporting cast, would destroy Oklahoma City's hopes of a three-peat, and giving himself that fortune. Thomas Fisher **had won three in a row,** on two different teams, only this time he'd be the Finals MVP.

Oklahoma would take a rough turn, not reaching the finals for another two years, until one year Gilberto would turn into the leader they needed. They'd breeze through the playoffs, coming off a 59 win season. Matero, Johnnie, and of course De Luca would all be healthy coming into the finals. They'd have to beat a young team lead by Arthur Hicks, and it wouldn't be easy. Toronto would take the first two at home, Oklahoma would take the next three, two at home and one away. De Luca would go down with a Ruptured Achilles that night, allowing Toronto to inch by in game 6. The team fell apart, like a couple of years before, and continuously throughout each season, Mateo and Johnnie couldn't finish business without Gilberto De Luca.

Reports - Oklahoma would acquire Loren Calloway and Fredrick Sims in a trade, giving them a new ball-handler to play side-by-side with Johnnie. Matero was in that trade package, and he'd be on the back end of his career, he felt they just dished him off, not caring what he did for the franchise in his time there.

Back To Business Baby - After winning three MVPs, and two championships, Gilberto would have to wait 2-4 months for his Achilles to heal, even after the off-season. It wasn't as bad as it could be, but still an obstacle. Oklahoma City started dreadfully, failing to win any games, dragging their record down to 2-12, Johnnie and Loren would be taking heat from the media, they couldn't carry this team. They managed to uplift the team record to 17-25, and Gilberto was back. He'd miss the all-star game and wasn't in MVP contention due to the number of games he missed, but he'd notch a 27-15-4 season. Putting this team as a lower seed was rather bait, they weren't that low, Gilberto was back and that changed everything. They faced higher contention that year in the playoffs but still breezed through, finishing off two series' in 7 games. They'd face the Portland Trail Blazers in the finals and battle it out. Oklahoma would win two games on the road, then let one go at home. Portland would take game 6, and here they were again.. Game 7, and by the grace of the universe, Gilberto delivered. 56 points and a sealed victory for Oklahoma meant they were back.

So, how will the second half of Gilberto's Prime go?

Note - If you have any cool stories, feel free to drop them below.

Why do NBA 2K MyCareers always tout your player as the "hottest thing and superrookie" but the moment you enter the NBA your guy is a 60-something overall that plays like a slug who shouldn't even be in the G-League?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 07:30 AM PST

Like fucking seriously, i played the entire 2K20 prelude as a Post scoring center, i dominated the prelude, scoring over 30 every game and getting shitloads of teammate grade, but when i get into the nba no shots will go in, i'll barely get 10 points a game, barely any rebounds and no one will give me the ball even though i'm wide open. Same thing with my Kobe-esque shooting guard, dominate the prelude, get drafted, then i cant dribble around anyone, my stamina drains faster than a thirsty man draining a flask in the desert, i barely get any passes and shots that should go in won't. why can't we just be a la Luka Doncic IRL where he's having a dominant season carrying the Mavs with Porzingis and scoring shittons? why are we fucking forced to start off as a fucking scrub? Is it because they want you to buy VC? i honestly dont get it

Worst. Thing. Ever. It was sad. They weren't that good of course but it just wasn't fun at all when you're specifically trying to play the game for fun. I hope the matchmaking changes or something cause that whole game wasn't it at all.

    Intentional subbing

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 11:53 PM PST

You guys ever feel like the computer will automatically cause the other team to commit a foul, or call a timeout, when you've reached your supposed minutes limit in a half with the explicit purpose of subbing you off?
