anybody else think team practice was designed to be as annoying as humanly possible?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 04:12 PM PDT

No, I don't mean the actual drills or anything. I mean the practice. You walk into practice and LeBron is Fortnite dancing on the side of the court like he's not a 35 year old grown ass man. You get mocked when you're shooting around for not doing drills (???) even when there's no more drills to do. The worst though, as I'm sure everybody knows, is the ball boys. WHY would 2k make it so that the ball boys pass it to your teammates first even if you're calling for it? They're not REAL. Why am i waiting 20 seconds to get the ball because CPU Danny Green wants to practice layups? 2k is at such a disconnect from fun that sometimes i wonder if they intentionally make the practice as grating as possible. Why? Maybe they hate you. I don't know.

NBA 2K20 simulates the NBA's next 80 years: Part 3 (the story of 2022)

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 05:00 PM PDT

    LINK TO THE PREVIOUS SEASON

I took control of all the teams in the NBA in MyLeague mode and set everything to auto. I simulated the crucial games with SimCast and the rest I just simulated. Let's see, season by season, what happens in the NBA from 2020 to 2100. Believe me, there are going to be some surprises...

    A) OFFSEASON & BUILD UP

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES: Carmelo Anthony

RETIRED JERSEYS: Number 15, Denver Nuggets (for Carmelo Anthony)

    RULE CHANGES: None

2021 NBA DRAFT: Although this was overall a decent draft class, no player dominated the headlines as much as one particular team did; The Sacramento Kings invested heavily in this draft after getting the first pick overall, by deciding to trade away Buddy Hield and Draymond Green, two of their best players, for the fifth and eleventh overall picks respectively. With three lottery picks in the first round, then, the Kings selected Cade Cunningham (80 OVR, PG) , Jonathan Kuminga (79 OVR, SF) and Usman Garuba (74 OVR, PF). The Kings are going to build their team around this young core and their star DeAaron Fox, and are hoping to contend within the next 3 years. The only other notable news is the Magic stealing Evan Mobley (79 OVR, C) with just the 10th overall pick.

FREE AGENCY: As we go through these 80 in-game years together, not only do we explore how 2K believes the NBA will turn out, but unfortunately we expose some of 2K's flaws as well, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the free agency. With the default MyLeague settings, it seems like none of the big names ever move away, even if they have reason to. LeBron James, one of the best players of all time, would never stay with a team that missed out on the post-season, but there he was signing an extension with the Lakers. We also saw Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Jayson Tatum, Bam Adebayo, Donovan Mitchell, DeAaron Fox and Rudy Gobert pen new deals, while team options were exercised on the majority of the 2019 draft class, including reigning Finals MVP Trae Young. The only notable free agency move was made by the Heat, who signed the aging shell of former MVP Derrick Rose, a move that may turn out as a better deal for the Pistons than for Miami.

    B) REGULAR SEASON (WEST)

DENVER DELIVERANCE: The Nuggets have been a few pieces away from contention since the start of the sim, but they've underachieved in the last two seasons. However, this time they pulled it together to hold the best NBA record in the regular season.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM: Despite keeping their key players, the Blazers remarkably finished bottom of the Western Conference with 22 less wins than they had the previous season, when they got top seed. They just had to tank in the one season where they wouldn't have to face the Warriors...

SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT: Last season's bottom three all had improved records, with the Kings and OKC squeezing into the playoffs, while the Spurs finally showed signs of life in the sim with a decent (comparatively speaking) 36-win season.

    1. Denver Nuggets, 58-24
    2. Dallas Mavericks, 54-28
    3. Phoenix Suns, 52-30
    4. Memphis Grizzlies, 50-32
    5. New Orleans Pelicans, 49-33
    6. Oklahoma City Thunder, 47-35
    7. Sacramento Kings, 44-38
    8. Houston Rockets, 42-40
    9. Minnesota Timberwolves, 39-43
    10. San Antonio Spurs, 36-46
    11. Los Angeles Lakers, 35-47
    12. Golden State Warriors, 34-48
    13. Utah Jazz, 34-48
    14. Los Angeles Clippers, 30-52
    15. Portland Trail Blazers, 30-52

    C) REGULAR SEASON (EAST)

PLAYOFF MENTALITY: The Milwaukee Bucks have been the NBA's best regular season team in the last 3 seasons, but they still don't have a championship, so coach Mike Budenholzer set about improving the team's mental preparation by "treating every game like a post-season match". It got them top seed, but will the "playoff mentality" tire them out or will it give them the strength they need?

DON'T BRING ON THE HEAT: There was a lot of buzz around Miami after adding Derrick Rose to a team that has already made the playoffs consistently in the last few seasons, but the Heat had a poor run early on as the team struggled to find rhythm, eventually tanking for a lottery pick and ending up close to the bottom.

THE OVERACHIEVERS: Cleveland very much has a middle-of-the-road roster, just like they did in the last two seasons. Them making the playoffs with seventh seed is understandable to a degree, but a 50-win second-seed effort is truly extraordinary from these players and their coach John Beilein, and should be commended no matter what happens in the playoffs.

    1. Milwaukee Bucks, 55-27
    2. Cleveland Cavaliers, 50-32
    3. Atlanta Hawks, 48-34
    4. Boston Celtics, 47-35
    5. Philadelphia 76ers, 43-39
    6. Washington Wizards, 42-40
    7. Toronto Raptors, 40-42
    8. Brooklyn Nets, 40-42
    9. Chicago Bulls, 39-43
    10. Orlando Magic, 39-43
    11. New York Knicks, 34-48
    12. Miami Heat, 32-50
    13. Indiana Pacers, 31-51
    14. Charlotte Hornets, 29-53
    15. Detroit Pistons, 27-55

    D) REGULAR SEASON STATS:

    1. Best offense: Denver Nuggets, 123.2 PPG
    2. Best defense: Milwaukee Bucks, 111.2 PAPG
    3. Best differential: Milwaukee Bucks, 8.8 DIFF
    4. Most PPG (player): Luka Doncic (Mavericks) , 29.8 PPG
    5. Most RPG (player): DeAndre Ayton (Suns) , 16.8 RPG
    6. Most APG (player): LaMelo Ball (Pelicans) , 10.9 APG

    E) REGULAR SEASON AWARDS:

    1. MVP: Luka Doncic (Mavericks)
    2. Rookie of the Year: Cade Cunningham (Kings)
    3. Sixth man of the Year: William Floyd (Rockets)
    4. Defensive PotY: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks)
    5. Most improved: Killian Hayes (Spurs)
    6. Coach of the Year: Mike Malone (Nuggets)

    F) THE ALL-STAR GAME

THE GAME: Team Giannis 146-129 Team Luka

NOTABLE INCLUSIONS: Our three debutants, Zion Williamson on Team Luka and Deandre Ayton & Jayson Tatum on Team Giannis.

3PT CONTEST WINNER: Guess Who (Steph Curry, Warriors)

DUNK CONTEST WINNER: Zion Williamson (Pelicans)

    G) THE ALL-NBA TEAM

    Luka Doncic (Mavericks, G) , Ben Simmons (76ers, G) , Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks, F) , Pascal Siakam (Raptors, F) , Nikola Jokic (Nuggets, C)

    H) THE PLAYOFFS (WEST) :

FIRST ROUND: No real upsets here as Denver shuts down Harden and restricts the Rockets to just one win, while the two shock teams in the playoffs, OKC and Sacramento, fall to much better opposition. In the most interesting matchup, the best of the 2019 draft class did battle as Ja Morant's Grizzlies took on Zion Williamson's Pelicans, but Zion inspired his team to a 4-2 win and advancement to the Semi-Finals.

CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS: Both series were absolutely thrilling contests that went to game 7. In the first match-up, while the young Pelicans gave it their all, the top-seeded Nuggets couldn't miss out on the Finals, but in the other game, 2020 champions and 2021 Finalists Mavericks surprisingly crashed out to a much-unfancied Suns roster.

CONFERENCE FINALS: The Suns astonishingly continued their journey as they managed to win game 7 in Denver to become the 2022 Western Champions. This is the closest they've ever been to an NBA championship; their first finals appearance since 1993. The city of Phoenix, Arizona can practically smell the chip... but the East has some strong teams this year.

    I) THE PLAYOFFS (EAST) :

FIRST ROUND: The top two seeds Bucks and Cavs both perform sweeps and advance with minimal fuss, the defending champions Hawks make light work of the Wizards in five, while the 2020 finalists Celtics beat Philly in six.

CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS: Bucks and Hawks play brilliant ball, displaying the full strength of their abilities to win 4-1 and 2-4 respectively and setting up a rematch of last season's Conference Finals.

CONFERENCE FINALS: This is where the "playoff mentality" would truly get tested; there is no stronger opponent for the Bucks to face in the Conference Finals than the defending champions. But they show mettle... and desire... and some quality plays for good measure. The Hawks avoid the sweep, but they are no match for Milwaukee. Bucks in five, and heavy favorites for the NBA Finals.

    J) THE NBA FINALS

"Luka Doncic did not deserve MVP. Being compared to him, I took offense to that... It became personal for me, and I had to show that I am the best. " - Giannis Antetokounmpo

That quote, though it may sound arrogant, comes straight out of the Jordan playbook and is the epitome of Budenholzer's "playoff mentality". The Suns are not a bad team by any means, they beat the Western top seed and the defending Western Champions to get here, but they were no match for the Bucks, and especially for Giannis.

The Greek Freak cemented himself as an NBA great by averaging an incredible 38.5 PPG, 18.0 APG and 7.0 APG on his way to a Finals MVP and, most importantly, a first ever championship for himself.

And so, by sweeping the Suns 4-0 in the Finals...

THE MILWAUKEE BUCKS HAVE WON THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

2K Tips from an "Old Head": How to be a better scorer in 2K

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 09:09 AM PDT

This post is to help 2K newcomers and any that may be looking for some general advise on how to be a better scorer in 2K. I'm new to Reddit but I wanted to share some of my tips from an "old head's" perspective lol. I'm speaking from experience and ability to score very efficiently in pro-am, rec, and park. There are a few general things that good scorers must know/do in 2K:

    1. It is important to be a good teammate, more than it is to be a good scorer.
    2. Take what the defense gives you.
    3. The less dribble moves, the better.
    4. Play the best defense you can regardless of your build.

First, simply put, no one wants to play with a ball hog or a terrible volume shooter. If you're a better teammate, your teammates are more than likely going to help you get open, pass you the ball more, and generally do the smaller things to get you into a position to score.

Next... take what the defense gives you. This is what separates good and bad shot selection. Know the game and learn what constitutes as a contested shot. If the defense is behind you, that's considered open. If you jab step and the defense doesn't budge, shoot the shot if they're lagging back off. You have dead-eye on so it will register as a late contest. You have no clue how often I green with the defense standing right there.

Additionally, you don't need a ton of dribble moves to be effective in this game. If you're playing on a squad that relies on 5 out and / or iso ball, do your thing. However if you're playing with randoms or playing on a team that does not play that style, you need to learn how to be an effective scorer with less dribbles. Use effective moves based on your defensive reads. Learn and practice using different dribble moves and shot / layup animations. The more unique your offensive set is, the harder it will be to guard you.

Lastly but most importantly, PLAY THE BEST DEFENSE YOU CAN PLAY REGARDLESS OF YOUR BUILD! • No one is going to pass you the ball if you don't play defense! It's also very satisfying to be a menace on both ends of the court! Do the small things such as staying between your man and the ball, switching if you're getting cooked, playing good hands up D...

I wanted to share these things with you all because I like to play the game a bit different and it's hard to find solid tips that aren't the meta play style.

If you want to learn more, check out the video where I go into a little more detail. Peace!

NBA 2K21 MyTEAM Courtside Report (Dev Blog)

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 07:00 AM PDT

Shared Current and Next-Gen Collections and VC

Users' entire collection, VC balance, MyTeam points, pulled cards and tokens will carry over to next-gen as long as it is in the same console family (PS4 to PS5 or XB1 to Xbox Series X).

    Seasons

MyTeam is introducing the Seasons concept which will last roughly six weeks and will dictate the launch of new content in the mode throughout the life cycle of NBA 2K21. Seasons will be free to participate in for all MyTeam players.

    Badge and Evolution Customization

2K is bringing back badge cards, and allowing you to add them to players so that you can upgrade the special skills from Bronze to Hall of Fame. Also, it is taking the Evolution card concept to another level. You'll now be able to customize the evolution path of eligible cards. For example, 2K users can now choose between a few different badges to equip Evo cards as they move up to their highest possible tier. This is designed to make some Evo cards unique.

    MyTeam Limited and Unlimited

Limited mode is new to NBA 2K. It will be available every Friday-Sunday, and players will be competing for in-game championship rings. A new ring will be available every weekend and the competitions will have a variety of themes. One week you may be tasked with playing with a lineup that doesn't have a card above a Ruby. Another week, you may be challenged to put forth a lineup of players who are all 25 or younger.

If you earn every ring in each Season, you will unlock the Seasonal reward for Limited.

In Unlimited, you'll be competing through nine leagues/tiers. Each league has a specific requirement for advancement and is named after the gem levels in the mode. Bronze League may require you to win three out of 12 games to advance, silver requires four out of 12, and so on until you reach Galaxy Opal, where you'll need to go 12-0 to claim your reward.

    The Exchange

This feature is also new to MyTeam. You can now trade cards that you aren't using for cards that you need.

    IDOLS Replace PRIME Series Cards

Instead of PRIME series cards, this year's game will feature 15 special release IDOLS cards in premium pack collections. This collection will deliver the first pullable Pink Diamond card in September.
