Posted: 10 Jun 2020 11:32 PM PDT (TL;DR version at end) Full disclosure from the get go. I am not a good player at this game. I'm probably not as bad as I think I am, but I am definitely nowhere near good. I play 99% offline modes (only play Boot Camp online). I don't play Park, Cages or Pro/Am as I know I don't have the skillset to be competitive. I'm strictly MyCareer/MyTeam and that's what gives me the most joy. I can't do dribble moves, and I can't on ball defend to save my life. So having said that, why should you read this guide? The reason is there are probably other players like me who have either picked this up cheap on sale, got it on Game Pass or who have never played an NBA game before and want to give it a go. This is who the guide is aimed at. A lot of this is by no means new information, but it was new to me and I figured others might benefit from this as well. For the purposes of this I am going to assume that the reader has some knowledge of the game mechanics/terminology/navigation. THE TEAM LINEUP There are many different tactics that people use when picking which players to use, but this one I have found to be the most reliable/successful for my skill level and play style. Firstly, pick a player with a high 3 point rating and one that you are comfortable in consistently getting green shots with. This will usually be a PG/SG as speed has some impact on making this tactic work. This will be the player who will do pretty much all of the grunt work. The other two players I use are centers, the LOWER the grade the better. Why not the best centers you have? The reason is that the quality of the players you have in your lineup determine the quality of the team the CPU picks for you. They generally match it up so it's fairly even. If you come out with 3 pink diamonds, then that's what your opponent will most likely be consisted of. By having two low ranked centers, this means you will have two low ranked opponents to match. In an ideal situation you should use any highly/fully levelled evolution players, as the matchmaking is based on the UNLEVELLED version of that card. For example, I use Evo Kevin Garnett who I have levelled 4 stars out of 5. however the AI will matchmake based on the 0 star equivalent, giving you a real advantage. GAMEPLAY - OFFENSE There's a number of different methods I use to grind which I will try to explain briefly METHOD ONE Inbound the ball and give it to your shooter. Have them run into one of the corners (where the 3 diamonds are on the court) but be careful not to run out of bounds. Once in the corner, make sure both feet are outside the 3 point line. Now call a screen (Hold down LB on the Xbox, L1 on PS) and the closest centre will run across and set a screen. What happens most of the time is that the AI player closest to you will for some reason take a step or two away from you and stand beside the center. This means that you are now classed as wide open and that's when you take the shot. After shooting IMMEDIATELY hit the change player button (A/X) which should switch you to the center...who should be clear and running towards the basket. If the shot goes in great ! If not, the center should hopefully pick up the rebound and you can pass it back to the shooter and you can try again. If for some reason the player covering you does NOT move back a few steps the simply move left/right of the center (depending on which side of the court you are on) and the center should block the defender and still give you an open shot. METHOD TWO This is essentially the same as Method One however you don't go into the corner but rather halfway between the middle and the sideline just outside the 3 point arc. The process is still the same. METHOD THREE (A bit more tricky to execute) This is not for three point shooting but moreso for dunking, and especially for players who have a dunk requirement to evolve but never seem to perform one during a game (i'm looking at you Dwayne Wade/Larry Hughes!). Inbound the ball and stop the player just outside the 3pt arc in the middle. Tap LB/L1 to bring up your playcalling list, press RT/R2 and then pick Give & Go (A/X). The centers will run to their respective sides of the court outside the arc. Choose one to pass to and pass it to them. The shooter should then run off the screen and then come back on. If all goes well your shooter should have got past their defender and be heading straight for the basket. Once they get towards the top of the key, do an alley-oop pass by double pressing Y/Triangle and the player should grab it and dunk. Having said that timing, distance from the defender and the height/speed of the defender are crucial to make this work so this is probably one to use only in the right matchup circumstances. GAMEPLAY - DEFENSE As I mentioned earlier, I cannot play on-ball defense well. One thing I have learned though is that defending with a center is a lot easier than other positions purely because of height and requiring a little less skill. When it comes to defense, you will first have to d a little research on your opposition. Before the game starts, immediately press Pause and go into Game Stats and look at the ratings of your opponents, specifically the 3 point shooting rating. The person you are going to control on defense is the center who is matched up with the opponent with the lowest 3 point rating. Don't control your PG/SG if you can't defend as you will get blown by and give up easy points. This is what we are trying to avoid. Also avoid switching players to control when the ball is passed around. Stick with the one player and essentially just maintain a gap halfway between your assignment and the basket. If they want to take a 3 point shot, let them. Being a high risk shot they are more likely to miss giving you an easy rebound. We are not trying to stop the opponent from scoring completely, we just want to make it as difficult as possible to do it. If defending immediately after missing a basket yourself, make sure you switch immediately to the centre at the far end so you can set up your defense. So that's basically it! It may not work straight away but if you keep at it it will definitely become second nature. I was struggling to get past 30 wins in TT Offline before I read about this, but now I am at 150 wins and have only lost maybe 10-15 times in that span. Is this method morally right? Probably not. Do I feel bad about doing this? Since it's the AI I'm cheesing and not another human player....not one little iota. THE BENEFITS Not only do you get MT for each win, but you also get a chance to open the vault and potentially get tokens, more MT or even a Galaxy Opal player. Speaking of the vault, did you know you can use the right analog stick to move it around the screen before opening? There are rumours that if you have the vault positioned in a certain spot it increases the likelihood of opening. I've heard having the vault in the dead centre of the screen works best. On top of that you can get extra prizes for a certain number of wins. This is also a great way to grind evolution players who have three point, dunk or games played requirements. I hope new players find this informative and feel free to share any other methods you may come across. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TL;DR - Pick a SG/PG that you can green with and with high 3pt & 2 low ranked centres - Run to the corners, call a screen, wait for AI to step back and shoot 3s. Or run left/right past the centre - For dunks, call a Give & Go play, wait for player to beat defender and alley opp - On defense control the centre marking the player with lowest 3pt rating [link] [comments] | ||
