Advice and tips for new players

    Posted: 15 May 2020 01:28 PM PDT

2K20 is on sale and a lot of people have been getting into it for the first time in years, or ever! I have been spending hours just talking to new people trying to help so I thought I'd decide to just make a post so I don't keep repeating myself to every person I talk to. I'll try to keep it short and easy.

I don't know if credibility matters but here is my:

    Career:

Play on the lowest difficulty. Unless you are an experienced MyCareer player that plays it for fun, it is unnecessary and too difficult playing on higher difficulties. There are benefits like more VC but your performance is often so much worse in higher difficulties that the payout is less than the lower modes.

On offense, take advantage of screens. Until you learn how to dribble vs the CPU and learn what moves they can't guard, screens are a good way to get the guard stuck so you get an open shot or get the center on you so you have a speed mismatch. In the paint, they almost always play help defense, so don't try to force contested layups or dunks. Take advantage of the fast breaks, which is where you will get most of your points in the paint. If you are the PG, you can press LB/L1 to pull up plays and call for an isolation. Best way to spread the floor so you have space.

On defense, play your man. Don't get aggressive and try helping your teammates out too much because it often leads to your man getting an open shot and you get a defensive breakdown. If your man doesn't have the ball and starts running around the court, watch for screens! The CPU loves making one or two people set off-ball screens that get you stuck while you're chasing your man, which is how you get defensive breakdowns.

If you complete a game without doing "SIM TO END (NO VC)," you will have a training session you can do. Always do them, they help you get badges so much faster. After a few practices, you'll be able to select which badge category you want to work on and it makes grinding badges much easier!

Best way to get shooting badges here

Best way to get playmaking badges here or here

Best way to get finishing badges here

Best way to get defensive badges is just play normally, aren't really any methods. Things that get you a lot of points towards badges are forced ball pickups, blocks, steals, and good shot contests.

Remember: The more badges you get, the easier it is to get more! Don't get discouraged.

    Best settings to use here

    Best builds for new players:

Keep in mind, you can always make a new build. Most people have more than one build. That being said, picking a well rounded, safe build as your first build lets you figure out what aspects of the game you want to be better at, and what aspects you don't need as much of (is that English?).

If you want to play park:

Note: There are many ways you can make one build. This is how I would make the build based on the current meta of the game.

    (PG)

6'5 Slashing Playmaker. Pure yellow pie chart. @190lbs. Default wingspan or shorter. Slashing takeover.

    Pros:

    -Well rounded

    • Great dribbling

    • Good badge distribution

    • Good physicals/athletic

    Cons:

    • Low defense

    • Jack of all trades master of nothing

    (SG)

6'5 2-Way Sharp. Shooting and defense pie chart (green/red) @187 lbs. Wingspan vary on if you want better offense or defense. Sharpshooting or Lockdown takeover.

There are multiple names here because the name changes based on what wingspan you go with. So here they are. Keep in mind, names don't matter, they are just a preference if you care about the name.

    Wingspan: 77.0-78.0"

    2-Way 3-Level Facilitator

    Wingspan: 78.9-80.7"

    2-Way Sharpshooter

    Wingspan: 81.6"

    2-Way 3PT Facilitator

    Wingspan: 82.6-86.2"

    2-Way Pass-First Guard

    BONUS

If you take 2 points from pass accuracy and put them into defense, you get a different set of names like 2-Way 3-Level Scorer and Perimeter Lockdown.

    Pros:

    • Well rounded

    • Great defense

    • Great shooting

    • Enough playmaking to run PG if need be

    Cons:

    • Not a lot of playmaking badges

    (SF)

6'9 Rebounding Wing. Shooting and defense pie chart. @233 lbs. Max wingspan. Lockdown takeover.

    Pros:

    • Elite defense

    • Great shooting

    • Can guard many positions

    • Faster than centers, but just as efficient on defense

    • Good shooting with long wingspan

    Cons:

    • Low strength

    • Low lateral quickness (doesn't really matter if you play big man in park)

    (C)

6'11 Glass Cleaning Lockdown. Shooting and defense pie chart. Max weight. One tick below max wingspan (92.0"). Glass Cleaner takeover. Yes, over Rim Protector.

    Pros:

    • Better interior Defense and rebounding than a wing

    • Tall

    • Better interior finishing (higher standing dunk and taller means you'll get contested less)

    Cons:

    • Slower than a wing

    • Only 70 three point rating

Apologies if there are many mistakes, I was making this post on and off all day because I was busy. Please ask any questions/make suggestions about something I put in this oost. I love to help!

So you're telling me, I've got to try to beat Galaxy Opal Shaq and Kobe all over again because of THIS?

    There's always that one teammate...

A rare sight, a rec game with no toxic teammates

    2k in may is weird

In REC, AI is better than normal player. They have unlimited stamina and fouls.

    Posted: 15 May 2020 09:10 PM PDT

AI can sprint up and down the court and never getting tired. They can foul 6 times and still stay in game.

And most often than not they play better than typical players.

    2k shouldn't release a game this year

    Posted: 15 May 2020 12:52 PM PDT

Instead of releasing a delayed 2k21. They should aim to release 2k22 Sept 2021, and take the time to learn the new generation hardware and release a superior product. Instead of releasing the glorified roster updates they have been releasing for years.

    MyCareer Suggestions for my player

    Posted: 16 May 2020 12:47 AM PDT

Good day! I would like to share my experience right now regarding mycareer. I know that all of us has this experience. I was a GS Warrior for my first 7 seasons, won 7 straight 🏆's, and the GM didn't offer me a max contract and said i will never be one. I wanted to have 34 mins but they gave me 38 mins so i counteroffer. Right now, I am playing in Houston. I signed a $38.14M/1 yr. My teammates right now are Doncic, Tatum, Russ and Capela.

Here are the questions I would like to ask y'all about 1.) Should I stay with the Rockets? Or sign elsewhere? 2.) Players y'all suggest that would add to the bench? 3.) Russ is on a decline. Should I go for a star PG or a Spencer Dinwiddie type of PG?

Also drop suggestions for my MyCareer pls, would appreciate every opinion.
