    The path to basketball superstardom is a dream for many and achieved by few in real life, but in NBA 2K21 you'll have that opportunity as you carve your own path in MyCAREER! Always a highlight for millions of players around the world each year, MyCAREER offers a personal, cinematic basketball experience where you'll build your custom MyPLAYER and take them to the heights of their career on and off the court.

    As previously shared, the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 is built from the ground up for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. We'll be sharing much more about the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 soon enough; today we'll be going over everything that's new in the current-gen version which launches on September 4.

    Experience Junior's Journey

    In NBA 2K21, this year's narrative, The Long Shadow, tells the story of Junior – the son of a beloved baller who faces the challenges of trying to make it to the NBA, balancing legacy while carving his own path through high school to college. Making this journey more authentic to real life, NBA 2K21 will feature 10 officially licensed college programs to choose from in the story: Michigan State, UConn, Florida, Gonzaga, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, UCLA, Villanova University and West Virginia.

    Of course, just making it to the draft doesn't mean the end of the journey - it's just the beginning! You'll have to choose the right representation, manage team interviews, perform well at the NBA Combine and improve your Draft stock to land yourself in the best position for success.

    Also, it wouldn't be MyCAREER without some familiar famous faces. In NBA 2K21, you'll see Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy), Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Guardians of the Galaxy), Mireille Enos (The Killing, World War Z) and cover athletes Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson and more bring Junior's story to life in a dramatic and cinematic way.

    A lot of players will spend the entirety of their NBA 2K21 experience in MyCAREER and balling out at the new 2K Beach location for the Neighborhood, but there's plenty more things to do in the game this year!

    2K producer: “MyCareer is a bit of a different beast in next gen. Obviously, we’re not going to have the Beach in next gen. We’ve got something brand new, which is completely crazy. It doesn’t make sense to have that progress carry on over.”

    More 2K21 details about Signature Motion Styles and MyLeague boom-bust progression system.

    Signature Motion Styles:

    Signature Motion Styles are applied on both ends of the court, where a better sense of weight and momentum can be felt when controlling players. Mike also mentioned that improvements were made to differentiate player speed so that quicker guards feel more realistic and move faster than slower bigs. Lastly, Mike stated that the general thing the team wanted to do was to make NBA 2K21 more skill-based, and to make the game a more realistic experience overall.

    MyLeague:

    MyGM/MyLeague has received new additions based off of community feedback. MLO, known as MyLeague Online, has different levels of privileges similar to admin privileges such as changing gear and equipment that was restricted only to admins last year. Another improvement mentioned was the activity log where all changes to the league could be seen. A new boom-bust progression system was touted, which was mentioned as a complete rewrite of the MyLeague progression system.

    The dynamism of the mode and this new system should mean that no MyLeague will be the same. The example given here was that in one league Erick progressed Zion Williamson in such a way that he was becoming the next coming of Michael Jordan, averaging 30 points and 15 rebounds a game. In the next league that he started, Zion ended up being a bust after getting injured early in his career and not really panning out as he should have. In other words, it now sounds like the system could see studs become duds based on how dynamic the mode plays put.

    Erick lastly mentioned that authenticity was of course important and talked about using the adjusted NBA schedule while next season is still an unknown. The calendar has been adjusted to start the NBA in December for the time being.

    I started playing 2k when 2k19, not by much tho. I only hit 95 overall with my centers with a 60% win rate. Anyways, I want to play 2k21 seriously. I'm a gamer who comes from FPS and moba games and I always pick the "support" role because no one likes playing that role. Meaning I heal, help my teammates so they perform well and get all the glory. I guess I'm looking for a support role in 2k if one exists. Grabbing boards, playing D, assists, etc. Anyone got any good "support" builds? Greatly appreciated. Thank you

    My 6’5 2-Way Mid-Range Shooter build for 2k21. HoF shooting and defense. Should be able to speed boost with the +4 speed from the workout or after a few overalls past 95. What is everyone’s thoughts?

    Done my daily spin no problem but jumped onto a court and the game didn't start. Boarders went and just didn't start the game. Looked around and it's the same on all courts?

    Dumbest part of 2k21 demo: not letting you test out the different shot meters

    This is literally all I was curious about considering how similar I expected the current gen version to be to 2k20. Just letting me test the difference between the multiple metering styles for a couple weeks would've been invaluable. As it stands, i might spend a couple weeks learning the new meter to discover that i still shoot significantly better with the old meter or with the meter off altogether. Of relevance: I used the pro stick to shoot in 2k20 and loved it. With this new aiming system I HATE it! Would've loved testing out the difference between classic meter and new meter before learning a new system.
